Camp Clay Town features new and dynamic arts and crafts experiences for 5 to 16 year olds. We focus on painting pottery, but also teach drawing, painting, clay, composition, art history and mosaics. Our desire is to provide the time and space for kids to exercise their intelligence and creativity while making beautiful and lasting works of art. We emphasize and balance between group activities and individual instruction, and work one-on-one to nurture each child’s individual creative exploration.

Explanation of the weekly Camp Clay Town Program
• Amazing Murals: In this brand new camp we will set up a still life from which the campers will learn some basic drawing skills: continuous line contours, sketching, perspective and composition. We will then move on to learn some painting techniques from the Great Masters including Matisse, Picasso, and Van Gogh. Finally we will compose a tile mural and learn about the “process of abstraction,” where each tile will be painted in a different style, then re-assembled to create a quilt-like effect – like a puzzle!
• Movements in Modern Art: We will learn about Movements in Modern Art including Impressionism, Pointillism, Cubism, Surrealism, and Expressionism, and recreate their styles on a set of beautiful bowls.
• A Girl’s Life: We will take inspiration from great women artists like Frida Kahlo and create projects about people and places around us and the things we love.
• Art of the World: Art and craft from different cultures is the theme of this camp. We’ll look at Aboriginal art, Majolica from Spain, Mexico and Italy, tribal masks, etc., as our inspiration.
• Artists in Nature: Taking the natural world as our inspiration, we will look at artists who painted from nature, we will go outside and paint “en plein air” to create some masterpieces of our own.
• Bugs, Birds, and Beasts: A special camp for our animal-loving friends! We will focus on the animal kingdom: painting, drawing, and forming with clay.
